Freeze Dance

When the music plays, the toadstool lamps glow and everyone dances. When it stops, everyone freezes! Rumi's wiggles won't stop at first, so Piko and Luma help him practise. A freeze dance song for ages 2–5.

Actions: Chorus: wiggle, shimmy your shoulders and spin around, then freeze still as a statue; on the chant, shimmy a little bigger each line and freeze on 'FREEZE!'. Verse 1: wobble like Rumi and pretend to tumble softly onto a cushion. Verse 2: freeze like a tall tree (arms up high), a wide star (arms and legs out) and a still statue, then shimmy side to side. Bridge: cup your hand by your ear and listen, stay still and smile, then hop three times. Verse 3: get ready, freeze, and cheer for yourself! In the Again! round the music really stops three times: freeze until it starts again. At home, pause any song and try new freeze shapes, with plenty of room around each dancer.

Chorus

Wiggle when the music plays,
Shimmy, shake and spin around!
When the music stops, we freeze,
Still as statues, not a sound!
Shimmy-shimmy, shimmy-shimmy,
Shimmy-shimmy, shimmy-shimmy,
Shimmy-shimmy... FREEZE!

Verse 1

Rumi wiggles, Rumi wobbles,
Music stops, but Rumi goes!
Tip, tip, tumble, in the flowers,
Petals on his little nose!

Verse 2

Freeze like a tree, arms up high!
Freeze like a star, so wide!
Freeze like a statue, still, still, still,
Then shimmy side to side!

Chorus

Bridge

Listen, listen, ears turned on,
When it's quiet, bodies stop.
Freeze and wait and smile, smile, smile,
Then the music... hop, hop, hop!

Verse 3

Rumi listens, ready, set,
Music stops, and Rumi's still!
Not a wiggle, not a wobble,
Freezing is a dancing skill!

Chorus

Outro

Shimmy-shimmy, shimmy-shimmy...
FREEZE!
