Rain on the Roof: A Rain Lullaby

Pitter-patter on the leaf roof keeps Piko awake, until Luma shows him how to listen slowly to the rain. A gentle lullaby for ages 0–5.

Actions: Chorus: sway slowly side to side; tap your fingertips softly like rain on 'Pitta-patta', then rest your hands on your tummy on 'hush'. Verse 1: open your eyes wide, then cover your head with your hands. Verse 2: hold up one finger, then two, for the drops; breathe in slowly through your nose and out through your mouth. Bridge: cup a hand by your head and listen, slower each time. Verse 3: wiggle your fingers down like gentle rain, and float your hand away like a little cloud. At bedtime, dim the lights, sing it softly, and let your child listen to the rain or a gentle sound together with you.

Chorus

Rain on the roof, soft and slow,
Tap on the leaves, down below.
Close your eyes and breathe in deep,
Rain sings Piko off to sleep.
Pitta-patta, pitta-patta,
Pitta-patta... hush.

Verse 1

Piko's eyes are open wide,
Pitter-patter, right outside.
Rain's too loud! He hides his head,
Luma glows beside his bed.

Verse 2

Luma's glow is soft and low,
Listen, Piko, nice and slow.
One drop... two drops... on the leaf,
Breathe in, breathe out, soft and sweet.

Chorus

Rain on the roof, soft and slow,
Tap on the leaves, down below.
Close your eyes and breathe in deep,
Rain sings Piko off to sleep.
Pitta-patta, pitta-patta,
Pitta-patta... hush.

Bridge

Listen... rain is on the roof,
Listen... drops are on the leaf,
Listen... slow, and slower too,
Sleepy rain and sleepy you.

Verse 3

Rain gives flowers drinks tonight,
Puddles shine in lamp-post light.
Little cloud drifts on its way,
Sunny puddles, play next day.

Chorus

Rain on the roof, soft and slow,
Tap on the leaves, down below.
Close your eyes and breathe in deep,
Rain sings Piko off to sleep.
Pitta-patta, pitta-patta,
Pitta-patta... hush.

Outro

Pitta-patta... hush.
Goodnight, rain. Goodnight, Piko.
